Mats meant a lot to a lot of people. Particularly, he holds a special place in the hearts of a certain group of people who regularly visit the island of Berneray, myself included. A youthful chap, he was a true legend of the road. And the cèilidh. And the drink!

Seriously though, for eleven years we would meet up each summer on a piece of rock in the Atlantic, share stories, go dancing at the Berneray Week cèilidhs, and just generally have an amazing time. I just can't believe he was taken so soon.

Rest in peace, mo charaid.

Goodbye dear Mats ! Our special friend with whom we talked and walked, danced and laughed, drank whisky and ate cake, on the beautiful island of Berneray, Outer Hebrides , Scotland.
By the wild sea and tranquil white sands we will look for you - but will see you no more. Forever in our hearts.

Good Lord, no! I just received the news this noon. Can still hardly believe it. A great friend and fellow cèilidh dancer and Berneray Week veteran has passed. You will be missed, Mats, our perpetually sportive, youthful Swedish pal! Thank you so much for everything - all your pictures and films of many lovely days and hours in Berneray - gun robh mìle math agat, a Charaid! Bidh sinn gad ionndrainn ann am Beàrnaraigh! Gum faigh thu fòis gu sìorraidh, bhiodh tu àiridh air uaigh ann an Seann-Chladh Bheàrnaraigh!

Frid viskar träden kring hemmet du älskat.
